Luxury Sea Cruises

Owen Jones | July 20, 2010

Vacationing on a cruise liner is rightly considered to be elite and luxurious. It is certainly the best kind of vacation that I have ever had. The luxury far surpasses staying in a five star hotel. On the other hand, it is like an elite all inclusive holiday, because once on board, all the entertainment and all your meals are free. Alcoholic drinks must be paid for, but then they are duty free.

If you have never been on a cruise before you really must try it. I would not recommend it as a family vacation, but I have seen families on cruises. Cruising might suit a family with older children or you might find a cruise which is planned with children in mind. However, in my experience, your average cruiser is over 50 and married.

I know that they do 18-30 cruises and all kinds of themed cruises, but if you just go on a normal cruise, most of your fellow passengers will be older. Many of them are celebrating something too – retirement, Golden Wedding Anniversary, 70th birthday, that sort of thing. These people want a relaxing time and do not really want children running around and jumping in and out of the pool. Dinner can be late and the evening’s entertainment is not child orientated either. If you want to take children, look for a specialty cruise.

A cruise is relaxing and all about pampering. Luxury and pampering and world class food. I put on five pounds on a two week cruise and friends said that was abnormally little! I will tell you about the food on my last cruise.

Breakfast lasted from 7 AM to 10 AM and there was a buffet with food from all around the world: fruit, porridge, toast, bacon and eggs, ham, cornflakes and all the variations, sausages, rice, Chinese food, prawns, fish and more. Elevenses started at 11 AM and had tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits, help yourself.

Lunch was a two hour affair commencing at 1PM consisting of four courses. There was a choice of set plans, but if you wanted to mix and match you could – I think the plans were only to make it easier for the elderly to make up their minds. With 1,200 people to give food to in two sittings, the waiters try to speed selection up in very subtle ways, but never outwardly. High tea was from 4 to 4:30PM: tea, coffee, cakes, biscuits and sandwiches.

Dinner was at 6:30PM and was a five course meal in the same vein as lunch and at midnight there was a barbecue on deck until 2AM. Everything that was served was first class and there was no restriction at all on how much you could eat.

Entertainment was after dinner and there were two shows to match the two dinner sittings, but you could sit there for both shows if you liked. There was a different show every night ranging from solo artistes to bands. There were theater plays and musical shows, it was very grand. There was also a piano bar playing jazz and a disco every night

I would recommend a cruise to anyone, but it is a good idea to check what sort of cruise you are booking as some are themed and if you do not like the cruise’s theme, you may not get the full enjoyment out of it.

Vacationing With Your Dog In St Croix

Owen Jones |

Whether you prefer clear mountain air or the ozone-rich, salty air of the sea, you can find places to take your dog for a walk that are idyllic, even when you are on holiday. If you are a nature lover and a dog lover, you could choose a vacation destination with nature and your dog in mind.

City-bound hotel holidays or long, driving holidays are not very enjoyable for your dog. If a dog is going to be at home all day, he would prefer be in his own home all day. Likewise, with driving. He might plead to go the mall with you in the car, but doing a coast to coast run in a hot fortnight in June, is not really what he is all about.

Therefore, if you are planning a vacation that you think your pet would not really like, why not do him and yourself a favour and leave him behind? Leave him with a dog-loving family member or friend or board him in a kennels that you have checked out well yourself.

There are literally hundreds of boarding kennels in operation in every state and often there are thousands. Most of them are good, some are outstanding and the owners of some could do with a stiff talking to. I put my dog in one once that I had not checked out well enough and went away for two weeks. When I got back four hours early, they were not ready me and my dog was dirty and forlorn.

I felt awfully guilty and my dog would not ’speak’ to me for a week. Really! No eye contact, no tail wagging, would not always come when called, no happy running about, just a hang dog expression for seven days. She must have felt that I let her down badly, which of course I had, by not researching the kennels.

A tremendous place to take your dog is St Croix in the United States Virgin Islands. The US Virgin Islands are literally part of the United States of America and you can go there without a passport, with your US dollars and with your dog.

Not every hotel permits animals just as in mainland USA, but there are loads that do. There are also package holidays that will take you and your dog from the airport to the island hotel and back again all for one price.

Of the four main islands in the US Virgin Islands, St. Croix is most likely the best choice for going to with a pet dog, because it is less heavily populated than the other islands and is by far the largest.

The hotel or resort will almost certainly not provide feeding dishes, bedding and toys but they will certainly have a shop where you can buy such things. It is probably not worth bringing your own either unless you have a large suitcase and a generous weight allowance. Food for your dog will also be extensively available on the island, of course.

St Croix has a variety of sorts of landscape and plenty of activities to take full advantage of them. There are gorgeous tropical beaches perfect for swimming or playing in the shallows; there are the undulating plains of the old plantations, which are perfect for long walks and there are hills, mountains and rain forest to explore with your dog too.

Unforgettable Stay At Cheap Hotel

Bojak Cruz | June 3, 2010

In the recent past, the need for budget hotels has increased multifold which has resulted in increased numbers of establishment of independent hotels and back packers across various countries like Australia. It is not like the times before when package holidays were the chosen ones during summer holidays; in fact these package tours are no longer preferred. People now are no longer interested in the consistency which these package tours claim to offer. They (travelers, holiday makers, tourists or explorers) prefer excluding the middle man and try to book things online

Due to this change in trend, people today try to find some economic deals in places like Sydney, Melbourne or others cities in Australia. These budget hotels used to a rather satisfied in times before. They used to depend on their name and position and were striving to be superior when it comes to cost. But now they are no longer quiet and satisfied rather they are more open to meet the market demands now and they are doing their best to meet up the challenges of market competition.

In fact nowadays the owners of these economic hotels spare some part of the room especially for budget holidaymakers. They are well aware these rooms will take no time to get reserved once they are ready to be occupied. The owners of these small-sized hotels also understand that if they provide spacious rooms in budget range, this can provide them an edge over others

Nowadays all the global travelers want something very different and satisfactory. This urge to get something rare has resulted in tremendous growth of the budget hotels. Together with budget goes another name widely accepted in budget hotel industry which is boutique hotels. Travelers of all kind be it backpack travelers or travelers keen on learning look for facilities like hot water, fresh and ironed bed sheets so that they can enjoy a nice and warm night stay. These small-sized hotels have realized and fairly met such requirements of holiday makers.

Not only the budget hotels but the guesthouses with bed and breakfast have also gained a sudden hike in public attention if we talk about reputation. They sell themselves by stressing on guaranteed homely and satisfactory stay. They are able to achieve this by emphasizing on the fact that these facilities which they provide are a must have requirements for backpack travelers. These guesthouses and boutique hotels have met the requirements of the holiday makers to the best and hence they have been successfully in expanding their business similar to economic hotels.

If you are looking for the cheapest hotels then simply go over to Chris’ website. They have the lowest prices on hotels guaranteed.

Cheap Deals On Las Vegas Hotel

Leign Cruz | May 31, 2010

Every year, more than 38 million people flock to Las Vegas for a little R&R in one of the world’s hottest entertainment centers. It goes without saying that nearly everyone who sets foot in this tourist’s Mecca wants to get the best hotel or motel deal they can possibly get. If you’re thinking about taking a vacation to Las Vegas, you’re probably right there in the same boat with them. But caveat emptor: Just because you see an ad for the room of your dreams at the world’s best price doesn’t necessarily mean the ad is 100 percent true.

Suppose you’re shopping around for a room in Las Vegas and you see an ad for one that goes for about $19.95 a night. Can you trust it? Not completely, for there are hidden costs about which you may not know. For one thing, this price doesn’t factor in any taxes that may be charged, and Nevada charges a 7.75 percent sales tax on everything you buy. TO make matters worse, there is a 9 percent tax on hotel rooms in Las Vegas alone. And if you happen to choose accommodations conveniently located near the so-called Fremont Street Experience, you’re going to have to pay an additional 2 percent onto your room tax.

Despite all the hidden charges, there is still a lot you can do to save a few extra pennies when you take that much-anticipated Las Vegas trip. First of all, try not to book a room on Fridays or Saturdays because rooms are less expensive during the normal work week – i.e., Monday through Thursday. Also, people love to spend holidays in Las Vegas, so remember to book your hotel room well in advance of Christmas, Easter or some other major holiday, or you could find yourself without accommodations when you land in Las Vegas. Finally, if you go to Las Vegas for the holidays, you’re going to pay more for a room than you would in ordinary times. Budget-conscious consumers take this fact into account when they plan a Vegas trip, which is why you won’t see them visiting this glittering entertainment capital during the holidays.

But planning your Las Vegas budget doesn’t stop with room accommodations. Maybe you’ve thought of it or maybe you haven’t, but you’ll have to take into account your transportation needs in and around the city. Luckily for you, there are many different alternatives from which you can choose. You can, for example, take a taxi from the airport, but airport shuttles are far and away the cheaper alternative. Plus, if you land in McCarran Airport, you can take a shuttle bus from there to downtown Las Vegas and/or the Strip, which will cost you less than $10.

For those who want a little more independence, it is possible to rent a car in Las Vegas for about $25 or $30 a day. Just make sure you’re doing this on a week day because the price goes up on weekends. Also, remember that large conventions or some other special events could tilt the balance away from supply and toward demand, so you may not be able to rent a car all that easily if at all on such occasions. And as mentioned earlier, you can take taxis, but you should know that the base rate for doing so is about $3.20, with an additional $2.20 thrown in for each mile. And while parking may be generally free in Las Vegas, if you opt for valet parking, you will be expected to tip a minimum of $2.00 for having the valet park your car and bring it to you when needed.

Is saving 40% a condition of Cheap Hotel Rates? I think so, if you agree visit Chris’ site and book today for your next trip.

Honeymoon On St Croix, USVI

Owen Jones | May 22, 2010

After your wedding day, your honeymoon is one of the most memorable times of your life and so must certainly count as one of best vacations you will ever take. It is the beginning of a new life with the person you love. As such it is a good reason to visit somewhere you have always wanted to go, somewhere really special.

One of the most popular places for people to go to on a honeymoon is St Croix, The US Virgin Islands, in the Caribbean.

The Caribbean is the first preference for many newly weds for various reasons: the romance, the people are happy and welcoming, the sand, sea and sunshine, the food and the music. St Croix in the US Virgin Islands is one of the most well-liked destinations in the Caribbean islands.

St Croix has beautiful beaches and that perfect tropical climate that is so appropriate for a wonderful honeymoon. The hotels and the island’s inhabitants love to take care of newly weds and go out of their way to make sure that the honeymooners have the time of their lives – a holiday that they will remember fondly for ever.

Cost is always a factor when one is planning a honeymoon in the Caribbean, but you do not have not be too worried on that front. A honeymoon on St Croix need not be costly and as it is only 1,300 miles from the USA, so travel costs and travel time are low.

You will not have trouble finding somewhere on the island to fit your desires. However, St Croix is a popular honeymoon destination, especially for Americans, so it is worth booking your honeymoon holiday as early as possible in order to obtain the reservation that you want.

There are three main kinds of places to stay: a hotel, a vacation rental or a holiday home. The difference between a vacation rental and a holiday home is that the former is a condo or villa purpose built for holiday makers, whereas the holiday home is actually somebody’s house who has let it out for a short time.

When scheduling your honeymoon, you should think about when you will go away. It was traditional to leave for the honeymoon after a short reception on the day of the wedding, but many couples delay their departure date nowadays. Over the last few decades, it has become the norm to hold an extensive reception hours after the wedding, often at night. This will often go on until midnight or later, which makes leaving for foreign climes quite difficult. A hangover is not a good travelling companion either.

Therefore, you may want to put your going away date off until two days after the wedding, although I think that flying out on the wedding day is still the best idea. If you decide on a holiday home or a vacation rental on St Croix, you will have to make all your own preparations for getting to the airport, flying to St Croix and getting a taxi from the airport to your place of stay, so I suggest that for this, your first visit to this beautiful island, you take a package holiday, which will take care of you from your local airport to your hotel on St Croix and back again.

The Advantages Of An All-Inclusive Vacation

Owen Jones | May 2, 2010

If you are arranging to go on vacation this year, how are you thinking of going about it? There are several options to explore, if you begin planning early enough. There are the self-planned, ‘I will find a hotel when I get there’ style; there are cruises and there are package vacations.

The self planned is for those without children and is more adventurous. Cruises are wonderful, if you like being on the water more than being on land and there are the package holidays, some of which are all-inclusive package vacations.

If you choose a vacation package, you have the option of looking for an all-inclusive resort or an all-inclusive hotel. There is not much to pick between them, if you are going alone or with your spouse, but if you are taking children, the all-inclusive resort is the one for you.

This is because all-inclusive hotel rooms can be on the small side and if you have a small child or even children with you, your room will soon become overcrowded and suites are more highly priced. An all-inclusive resort, on the other hand, will normally offer accommodation in the form of cabins or chalets, which are designed with young families in mind.

You do not want to be staying on the 12th floor of a large hotel with toddlers, because either they have to stay in the room until you want to go out, in which case they might get grumpy or they might learn how to get out and wander off in the hotel. A chalet, however, will necessarily be on the ground floor, usually be in clusters, so that you can help keep an eye on each other’s kids and may even have a small garden with a fence.

Whether you go to an all-inclusive hotel or an all-inclusive resort really depends on whether you have or can put up with children. If you have children then a resort is for you, if you do not like children’s racket, then you would be better suited to an all-inclusive vacation in a hotel.

Once you have selected your type of all-inclusive package vacation, the rest is plain sailing. Actually what is all-included in these style hotels and resorts can differ quite widely, so you should make sure you know well in advance. Price is a good indication. If one resort at the same destination is much cheaper than the others, look into it more carefully before booking.

Often the difference will only be in degree. For example, an all-inclusive hotel or resort may offer the free use of diving gear, but when you read on it might restrict that to non-mechanical diving equipment, so you only get a mask, snorkel and flippers. Others may only have ten sets of equipment – first come first served.

However, having said that, most all-inclusive package vacations are incredible deals. They include your transport to and from your home town to the destination, which depends on you and where the resort is of course. For St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands transport could be by cruise or flight – you must settle on that at the outset. Having to travel 500 miles to Orlando by bus or train with three young children may not be much fun.

When you arrive there, they almost always include all your meals and snacks and all soft drinks, tea and coffee, beer and non-branded spirits. An all-inclusive will also include all fees to on-site entertainment. That means the, pool, the club house, pool, snooker, table tennis, the gym etc, and access to any private beach attached to the hotel. It will also include night time shows usually.

Saint Croix: One Of The US Virgin Islands

Owen Jones | April 29, 2010

Saint Croix is the biggest of the US Virgin Islands although the capital city, Charlotte Amelie, is situated on St Thomas. Saint Croix itself has two towns Frederiksted (pop. 830) and Christiansted (pop. 3,000). The name of the island derives from the original Spanish name given by Christopher Columbus in 1493 – Santa Cruz or ‘Holy Cross’. As Santa Cruz, Saint Croix gets a great deal of mention in swashbuckling stories of pirates and buccaneers sailing on the Spanish Main.

The populace before the Europeans arrived was Arawak and Carib and they had probably been there since about 5000 BC. After 1493 the population of the Caribbean got embroiled in a 100 years war with the Spanish and the type of people living on the island changed forever.

Saint Croix has been owned and therefore predominantly occupied by the Spanish, The British, the French, the Dutch, the Maltese and the Danish all of whom had slaves and plantations

The slaves were manumitted in 1848, but many chose to stay on Saint Croix. Descendants of slaves still live on the island. The total populace of the island is now roughly 60,000.

English is the official language and is the most commonly spoken, although there is also some Spanish, French Creole and Virgin islands Creole, also known as Crucian, which is spoken by most inhabitants in informal situations.

This Hispanic section of the Crucian populace is mostly of Puerto Rican lineage. The US bought Vieques from Puerto Rico during the Second World War and evacuated its inhabitants. Many moved to St Croix because of its similarity to Vieques. These people have integrated well, but also kept a few of their old customs. They usually speak a mixture of Spanish and Crucian English in a distinctive form of Spanglish.

Continental Americans make up about 13% of the population and mostly live on the eastern side of St Croix. Arab Palestinians are also a sizeable minority owning most of the petrol stations and supermarkets on St Croix. Other modern immigrants have moved from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and the Philippines.

There has been some tension between immigrants and those calling themselves ‘real Crucians’, but it has largely evaporated because of to intermarriage. There have been attempts to define a ‘real Crucian’.

The matter seems to have been sorted out when in 2009, the recommended U.S. Virgin Islands Constitution voted by the Fifth Constitutional Convention proposed three definitions of U.S. Virgin Islanders: “Ancestral Native Virgin Islander”, who have ancestral ties (and their descendants); “Native Virgin Islander”, who were born on the island (and their descendants); and “Virgin Islander”, who are any United States citizen who has lived in the territory for five years.

Christianity, in the guise of Protestantism is the main religion, although the Hispanic community is Roman Catholic. There are also small groups of Jews and followers of Rastafari, Islam.

5 Excellent Things you can do in the Mountains

Karen Black | April 26, 2010

Are you heading to the mountains and asking yourself what you could get into? There are plenty of fantastic activities out in the wild and according to how much time you have depends on exactly how daring you can be.

1. Fishing – Should you be in the mountains, fishing in a chilled mountain stream for trout is a must. Fly fishing has been a well-known fishing style since people begun fishing with hooks. Fishing for trout seems be getting hot by May and continue throughout the summer. Salmon fishing is good between September and December in most areas. Be sure to study up on the area you are going and find out what is biting when you are going to be there. There are also some big bass in mountain lakes as well as crappie and other species.

2 Biking – Finding a cool biking trail can be tough to find and really depends on where you are. In Alabama, we are lucky enough to have a number of genuinely awesome trails. Our state parks have done a nice job of building awesome mountain bike trails. Bike riding is fun to do in groups or alone. Continually study your trail before you set out and make sure you have the suitable tools. I always bring an Allen wrench for my brakes and a container of air with a patching kit! Always wear head gear while your cycling! A cycle helmet can save your own life if you hit a tree or a rock!

others.

4. Hunting – Depending on what time of the year you vacation determines what you can hunt. You can find hunting clubs or guides for day hunts or for full retreats! Many areas have prime deer hunting, Turkey, elk, moose, quail, chukar, duck and many others. Also many ranches and guides offer hunting and vacation packages. Enjoy fine dining and fine hospitality on a vacation hunt! Have the hospitality of a bed and breakfast with the adventure of a wild game hunt.

5.Snow Skiing – Snow skiing in the United States is a fun winter activity and can be enjoyed by anyone. There are many great locations to snow ski throughout the US. Some resorts have advanced snowmaking systems that allow more snow and in some cases extends the season.

Be sure and share your experience, so don’t forget your camera! Just remember don’t become too comfortable around wild animals, many are territorial and don’t take kind to anyone invading their space.

Find a great Vacation Rental or a secluded Mountain Bed and Breakfast today!

The Cheap Hotel Rates Five Star Tips

Chris Linch | April 19, 2010

With the recent improvement in the economy, travelers’ willingness to spend their hard-earned money on vacations is on the rise. Those, however, who are looking for the fabulous hotel deals of 2009 are likely to be disappointed. According to recent respected travel publications, hotels aren’t willing to offer rock-bottom deals now that rooms are no longer empty. Travelers, however, who are willing to take some time and effort, can still find good deals. Here are some suggestions to get you started:

Marriott is one of many hotels now advertising their lowest rates to customers booking online at their Website. They offer a guarantee that can’t be beat by other online travel brokers: an extra 25% off if within 24 hours of making a reservation a customer finds a lower rate for comparable room type, dates, etc. Marriott calls it their “Look No Further Best Rate Guarantee.” Call or visit them online for details. Rules and restrictions may apply.

When planning your vacation, look for hotels and resorts offering specials during the week and during the off-season. You may be the special traveler who loves hot desert weather, or chilly snowy seasons. And that may save you a bundle. Consider your options, it may pay off in your pocketbook.

Travelers often look at big city, four-star hotels, restaurants, clubs, etc. and think “I can’t afford them.” But you may be able to if you are booking a hotel in a city’s financial district on a weekend. Hotels usually have higher vacancy rates, and will drop their prices or provide room upgrades. And you will usually be near the best places to eat and party! Check it out–you just may be able to have a taste of luxury at the cost of a much more modest hotel.

If you are thinking you can’t afford to stay in a metropolitan area such as Las Vegas, Phoenix, or New York, you may be pleasantly surprised. Many hotels in large cities have upgraded to include many more rooms. You don’t necessarily have to stay on the outskirts of town where hotel options can be few.

Almost all hotels now offer a “Romantic Getaway” package if you book online at the hotel’s Website. They often include such special offers as spa treatments, discounts on dining, and golf deals. Even if you aren’t looking for romance, sometimes these packages can still save you money! It’s always a good idea to check a hotel’s online specials.

If you are looking for the cheapest hotels then simply go over to Chris’ website. They have the lowest prices on hotels guaranteed.
